Meniscus

The meniscus – an elastic structure made of collagen tissue and fibrocartilage found in the knee joint – is of crucial importance for the proper functioning of the knee joint, i.e. the uniform distribution of weight and the stabilization of the knee joint.

The causes that may cause meniscus damage are varied and are due to:Meniscus

  • in an injury, usually in athletes,
  • in a degenerative disease (e.g. osteoarthritis), usually in elderly patients.

The symptoms of this disease include:

  • swelling in the knee area,
  • severe pain in the knee area,
  • difficulty moving the knee joint.
