Periarthritis is a general term that refers to pathology in the shoulder area.
It is possible that someone who has shoulder pain and cannot raise their arm to a 90-degree angle, when they visit the orthopedic surgeon tell him that he suffers from shoulder periarthritis.
Most shoulder problems are related to damage mainly to the soft tissues (muscle groups, ligaments and tendons) and less to bone involvement. The diseases are classified into three major categories:
-Rotator cuff tendinopathy
-Instabilities (anterior, posterior, multiaxial)
-Arthritis
Symptoms
Often the pain in the shoulder is so acute that it does not allow any movement. If this is prolonged over time, the shoulder loses its mobility and becomes a “frozen” shoulder.
In acute periarthritis and frozen shoulder, in addition to the complete elimination of normal mobility, there is also nocturnal pain that does not allow the patient to sleep.
Treatment
-Physical therapy
-Anti-inflammatory-Analgesic drugs
-Local steroid injections or PRP
-If the symptoms do not subside with injections and exercises, an MRI scan and possibly surgical treatment are needed.
